March 17th – St. Patrick’s Day – marked my birthday. And, turning 53 got me thinking in a whole new way. I realized something pretty darn fascinating—I’m not just the sum of my current years, but a mosaic made up of every version of myself from way back when.
Sure, officially I may have hit 53, but lurking within me is still a 52-year-old, a 45-year-old, a 30-year-old… you catch my drift. It dawned on me like a bolt of lightning that each past version of me—quirks, dreams, and all—is still here, quietly shaping who I am today.
Instead of just fixating on this latest “Carolyn upgrade,” I decided to take a stroll down memory lane. And let me tell you, it’s been quite the ride – a whirlwind of reminiscing and “aha” moments.
But wait, it gets even crazier! I had this wild idea: why not start documenting my personal growth? Yep, you guessed it, I dove headfirst into journaling! It’s become my daily ritual—scribbling down thoughts, victories, struggles, you name it. And boy, has it been eye-opening. Not only does it help me untangle life’s priorities, but it also sheds light on all those little moments I tend to overlook in the hustle and bustle.
And guess what? It’s working like a charm. I’m feeling more centered, more thankful, more… well, me. So you bet your bottom dollar I’m sticking with this journaling gig for the long haul.
Now, why spill all these personal beans to you? Simple. We’re all riding this crazy roller coaster called life, right? And maybe, just maybe, my little epiphany can light a fire under your own reflections.
So, next time you’re blowing out those birthday candles, take a beat to celebrate all the “yous” that brought you to this very moment—awkward phases and all. Believe me, every version of you has a nugget of wisdom to offer.
Here’s to embracing all our past selves and the lessons they bring to the table. Because let’s face it, life’s a wild ride, and it’s so much sweeter when we’re in sync with every twist and turn. Every version of us has played a part in shaping who we are today and who we will become tomorrow!
